The International Atomic Energy Agency has announced several employment and internship opportunities across its technical, safeguards, emergency preparedness, nuclear data, research reactor, and administrative support areas.

The IAEA is one of the world’s leading international organisations in nuclear science, technology, safety, security, safeguards, and peaceful nuclear applications. Its employment opportunities are therefore important for professionals, researchers, young graduates, and nuclear-sector institutions across Africa seeking global exposure and career development.

According to the IAEA, applicants must apply through the official online job application system. For advertised positions, applications must be submitted before the stated closing date, by midnight Vienna time. Applications received after the deadline are not considered.

The listed opportunities include senior professional roles, technical leadership positions, safeguards-related posts, emergency preparedness roles, and internships in nuclear fusion, isotope hydrology, nuclear reaction data, technical cooperation, and stable isotope analysis.

The Agency notes that it has a multicultural workforce with staff from more than 100 countries and expertise across scientific, technical, managerial, and professional fields.

For African nuclear professionals, these opportunities are especially relevant as more countries on the continent expand work in nuclear energy planning, research reactors, nuclear medicine, radiation safety, safeguards, nuclear security, isotope applications, and nuclear science education. Positions in safeguards, nuclear data, research reactor capacity building, and technical cooperation are directly connected to areas where African countries continue to build institutional and human capacity.

Nuclear Africa encourages eligible applicants to review the official IAEA employment portal regularly, prepare their profiles early, and apply only through the official IAEA online recruitment system.

Important Notice to Applicants

Some of the deadlines in the original vacancy notice may have already passed. Applicants should therefore verify the current status of each vacancy directly on the IAEA employment portal before applying. Current openings and vacancy notices are updated through the official IAEA careers platform.
