The U.S.–Africa Nuclear Energy Summit 2026 (USANES 2026) will take place from 19–21 August 2026 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana, under the theme “Building and Sustaining Africa’s Nuclear Workforce.”
USANES 2026 will bring together government officials, nuclear regulators, policymakers, utilities, industry leaders, technology vendors, financiers, researchers, universities, young professionals, and international partners to advance practical cooperation on nuclear energy development across Africa.
The 2026 summit comes at a critical time for Africa’s nuclear energy ambitions. Several African countries are exploring nuclear power as part of long-term strategies to strengthen energy security, support industrialisation, reduce carbon emissions, and expand access to reliable baseload electricity. However, successful nuclear power development requires more than technology acquisition. It depends on strong institutions, skilled professionals, regulatory capacity, financing readiness, public trust, and long-term national commitment.
By focusing on nuclear workforce development, USANES 2026 will highlight one of the most important foundations for Africa’s nuclear future. Nuclear energy programmes require engineers, regulators, technicians, safety and security specialists, safeguards professionals, environmental experts, legal practitioners, project managers, communicators, and policy analysts who can support nuclear infrastructure development over several decades.
The summit is expected to provide a platform for high-level dialogue, technical exchange, partnership-building, investment discussions, workforce planning, and collaboration between African countries and U.S. nuclear institutions. It will also offer an opportunity for African countries to share experiences, identify capacity gaps, explore training pathways, and strengthen regional cooperation in nuclear energy development.
For Ghana, hosting USANES 2026 reinforces its growing role as a regional hub for nuclear energy dialogue, policy coordination, and capacity-building. The return of the summit to Accra offers Ghana and other African countries an opportunity to showcase progress, engage international partners, and mobilise support for the next phase of nuclear infrastructure development.
Nuclear Africa encourages policymakers, nuclear professionals, students, researchers, development partners, private-sector actors, and energy stakeholders across the continent to follow the summit and explore opportunities for participation.
